Shopping Tips

Home

We asked our sellers to send us any tips they had for first time shoppers.  Below is what they sent to us.
Please keep in mind that these suggestions are from sellers and not from Kidsignments although we
believe the following short list are great tips:

1. Be prepared for long lines if you shop on the opening day or last day.
2. Bring a snack, drink and patience when you come to shop.
3. Make sure to bring a list with you.
4. For special items, shop early and come back later to shop for the other items if you do not like crowds.
5. If you don't mind the crowds and want to find the best deals, come early on Tuesday and shop for as long
as you can. Checkout will take a while so bring a friend to trade off with while waiting in line.
6. If you are paying with check or MasterCard/Visa, bring your driver's license with you.
7. Sign the mailing list so you will know about future events.
8. If you ever want to sell, sign up the first day! We really do fill very, very quickly
9. Bring something to carry your finds with and make sure it is large enough for everything and
easy to pull when fully loaded to the top with items.

Now, here are tips from our sellers. Please note that many sellers have sent in the same suggestions.
Also, many are giving tips for shopping the first day when they refer to long lines and the crowds.
The first day and last day are very crowded.

IF POSSIBLE, DON'T SHOP WITH YOUR KIDS!
if you are going on Saturday, go early and don't bring your child if possible. Bring a trash can on wheels, it is easier to manage.
If you bring something larger than a laundry basket, it makes it very difficult to move around.  Also, bring something to drink and if you're pregnant-a snack
If you really love it, it won’t be there later, and don’t forget to come back Saturday, there will be lots you never saw the other times you came. (just couldn’t see it)
Inspect all the clothes before buying.
Invest in a sturdy container preferably on wheels. Bring water and a snack or 2 for the wait in lines.
It gets easier each time you go.  The first time can be pretty overwhelming if you have never been.  The first year I was in a state of shock when I saw everything.  Each year I learned a little bit more to make it easier.
It is larger than you can imagine

Patience
Patience is a must
patience, it's worth it
People like to hoard. Come to the sale 2 or 3 hours after it starts. People have had a chance to pick the stuff they really want and can afford, and there is always a lot of put back that they had hoared in their baskets.
plan ahead for what sizes or special items you are looking for, plan to wait in line and wear comfortable shoes!

Prepare to spend more time shopping than you think you will
Prepare to wait in line.
Prepare to wait on first few days, not bad later in week
Prioritize which items you need first, Ex: girls coat-- go to that area first as many items get sold or certain items get picked over quickly.
Really DO bring a laundry basket, and be prepared for a long checkout line
Relax and have fun! There's more than enough to go around!
REMEMBER ITEMS ARE MOSTLY ON HANGERS WHEN PICKING A BOX/BASKET.
RING SOMETHING LARGE TO CARRY ITEMS IN
Saturday shopping is an excellent way to save money.
save up your money for this one- it is sooooooooo worth it!  You will end up saving big bucks!
Save your money for a while - because I guarantee you still won't have enough money for what you will want to get at this sale.  I always find a million things here.  Be in good humor though the lines are lenghty at times the help is great and the money you are saving makes it well worth your time.
Schedule enough time to shop
Shop big items first, possibly come back to shop for clothes (once they are thinned out a bit)
Shop early
Shop early for best deals!
SHOP early...bring lunch too.,lol
Shop for items most needed first.
Shop later
SHOP SHOP SHOP
Shop with a rolling basket
Something to hold your items, do not bring a purse
Take a clothes basket to put items in so you are not carrying them around on your arm.
Take the advice of bringing a big bag/container with wheels or handles, I always underestimate the room I will need
Take the day off, make it a day event (you won't get in and out in an hour, bring baskets, come early.
Take your child's measurements and bring a measuring tape with you to the sale.  That way, you'll know for sure if a pair of pants or a shirt will be the right size.
The lines are worth it
The lines can get long. try to pick good times to go that might be slower.
there is tons of stuff but be prepared with a list so you don't overspend and bring a snack (the lines are LONG)
Think BIG!
this is the best for your money sale
wait and go the second day during the day.  Not as crowded
Wear a good pair of sneakers.
wear comfortable shoes and be patient in line!
Wear comfortable shoes and bring something to put items in!
Wear comfortable shoes, bring a LARGE container for all the great buys you're going to find and have fun.  I've made several friends there that I met standing in line.
wear comfy shoes
Wear good walking shoes, comfortable clothes and laundry baskets on a rope!!!
WORTH IT
Write down what you want before you go and look at the popular or unlikely items first.
Yes, I highly recommend them to bring something with wheels to put stuff you're buying, ...my husband and I shopped for the first time last year, and we had to carry the items we bought on a very long line, our arms had a really good workout that way and we could not buy as much as we wanted either!
you need a shopping buddy and carts
